Types Of Bras – Top Seven Styles

Did you know that there are various types of bras? In fact, there are 31 common styles, each with their own design and purpose for almost every clothing style, breast size, body shape, and even physical activity. Whew! Who would have thought that brassieres could be as varied as a supermarket?

We’ve put together a list of the 7 most popular bra styles:

Push Up Bra – these padded bras are fashioned to boost cleavage. Foam is usually used for the padding, though different variations may include gel filled or water inserts that are known as cookies. The design of push up bras is quite different from a regular padded bra in that the padding is positioned outside the breasts to push the breasts inwards and upwards for maximum lift. If you want a full cleavage then a push up bra is fabulous choice.
Demi Bra – the cup of these half cup bras is straight across and the bra straps are wide set. This bra style covers the bottom of the bosom and ends just above the nipples. Ideal for showing the decollete as it accentuates and frames the cleavage.
Shelf Bra – this open bra covers the base of the breasts, baring the upper part and the nipples. Since these cupless bras do not provide enough coverage and support, shelf bras are usually worn for fun. Shelf bras are from the family of exotic lingerie because they are so unique.
T Shirt Bra – this style is the ideal invisible look for clingy shirts and snug tops as it is designed with seamless bra cups. Usually T-shirt bras have light padding in the molded bra cups for a smoother fit.
Training Bra – devised for preteen and teen girls who have never worn a brassiere and whose breasts are just starting to mature. The majority of training bras are wirefree and are smaller than regular sized bras.
Strapless Bra – Strapless bras do not have regular shoulder straps and get their support from the band and thin silicone strips carefully placed along the inside of the brassiere to hold the breasts. This style is ideal for your strapless, summer, halter dresses and summer fashions.
Sports Bra – these brassieres are constructed to support the breasts while you exercise with less bounce. Sports bras generally have wider straps and fuller cups for better support and come in a multitude of styles for low impact exercises to high impact exercises, including the compression bra and encapsulation bra. For the best fit look for fabrics with a touch of lycra or spandex.

The more practical types of bras like push up bras, T shirt bras, demi bras, nursing bras, padded bras, long line bras, sports bras, and strapless bras among many others, can be found in brick and mortar stores as well as online stores.
